Andrew D. Drilling

Andy is an experienced labor and employment attorney whose practice focuses on helping employers navigate the complexities of federal, state, and local employment laws. Recognized for his practical, responsive approach, Andy partners with clients to develop business-focused strategies that minimize legal risk and avoid costly disputes. 

Andy regularly assists employers with a broad range of employment matters, including drafting and negotiating employment agreements, protecting trade secrets and confidential information, preparing and enforcing restrictive covenants, resolving worker classification issues, addressing wage and hour concerns, and ensuring compliance with leave and accommodation requirements.  He also advises on employee discipline and discharge, the avoidance and management of discrimination claims, and the development of employment policies and practices.

Andy is also adept at guiding employers through employment-related challenges in mergers and acquisitions.  His practical advice ensures that employment risks are identified early and mitigated effectively, allowing for a smooth transition and the protection of client interests throughout the diligence and integration process.

With extensive expertise working with international and multi-state organizations, Andy is uniquely equipped to address the legal challenges of establishing and expanding U.S. operations.  Andy provides comprehensive guidance on navigating the overlapping federal, state, and local laws applicable to international and multi-state employers. His proactive approach helps employers avoid common legal pitfalls, allowing them to focus on optimizing workforce operations while expanding their presence in the U.S.

Preventing legal issues before they escalate into costly disputes is a key function of Andy’s practice.  However, when litigation is necessary, Andy has the experience and skill necessary to effectively represent employers in administrative hearings, arbitrations, and federal and state court proceedings.  Andy has successfully represented employers before agencies such as federal and state departments of labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the NYS Division of Human Rights, the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board, and the NYS Public Employment Relations Board.

Andy is a contributing editor to New York Employment Law, a comprehensive guide to federal and New York State employment laws published by the New York Law Journal.  He also regularly conducts management training seminars to help employers stay ahead of emerging legal trends and best practices.
