
Andrew G. Besch
Andrew Besch is a senior associate in the firm’s Trusts & Estates Practice. He represents high-net-worth individuals, families, and closely held businesses in estate, succession, wealth and tax planning. Andrew also routinely advises clients with respect to complex estate and trust administrations, including contested proceedings. Andrew offers a creative, thoughtful, and personal approach to the complex, and often very personal and difficult, issues his clients face.
Andrew emphasizes assisting clients with complex tax issues, including cross-border tax and estate planning matters. He specializes in advising Canadian and other international clients who have connections to the United States, including U.S. citizenship; U.S. children (or other intended beneficiaries); ownership of U.S. real or personal property; and cross-border estate administration; advising them with respect to the U.S. tax issues and possible planning with respect to the same. Andrew also advises clients on the U.S. impact of Canadian estate freeze transactions, ownership of foreign corporations, and structuring of cross-border trusts. As part of this expertise, Andrew is known for counseling clients through some of the most nuanced and intricate tax concepts as related to tax and estate planning, including estate tax, GST tax, income tax, and PFIC and CFC tax.
In addition, for domestic clients, Andrew offers sophisticated trust planning through the use of GRATs, ILITs, IDGTs, and charitable trusts, and helps clients plan appropriately to minimize applicable state and Federal Estate and Gift Taxes.
