Catherine Eberl to Lead Trusts & Estates Practice
Hodgson Russ LLP is pleased to announce Partner Catherine B. Eberl has taken over as Practice Leader for the firm’s Trusts & Estates Practice. In this role, she will direct a multi-disciplinary team of attorneys and business professionals who advise on all aspects of planning, administration, settlement, and taxation of estates and trusts.
A decorated attorney, Eberl is regularly recognized by various professional organizations for her legal work and acumen. She has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2013, has been twice named Lawyer of the Year for Trusts & Estates by Best Lawyers in America (2023, 2025), and was listed in Upstate New York Super Lawyers Rising Stars for several years.
Eberl counsels clients and their accountants on how to use trusts to minimize state level taxes and how to employ multi-state plans. She is known for her experience in estate tax and trust income tax and her ability to develop creative plans and solutions for clients and their individual needs, in particular Canadian and other non-U.S. families with U.S. assets and interests.
In addition, Eberl has significant first-hand knowledge and expertise in family business succession planning, helping many clients in structure and execute on succession plans and having grown up in a family business that is now in its third generation of operations. She understands the rewards and challenges of family businesses, and the planning and foresight it takes to help clients transition their business down to the next generation.
She also serves as co-chair of the New York State Bar Association’s International Estate Planning Committee.
