Hodgson Russ LLP, celebrating its 200th year, is both Buffalo’s oldest continuous business and largest law firm.   Long known for its community involvement, during its bicentennial year the firm’s focus is on showing its appreciation to the community it calls home. And on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday February 14, 2017, Hodgson Russ will open its doors to more than 20 nonprofit organizations that need volunteers in order to fulfill their missions.

“Commitment to clients, colleagues and community is part of the firm’s strategic plan,” said Hodgson Russ President, Rick Kennedy. “What better way to help our community partners than by letting them tell their stories to everyone in the firm,” he added.

Each participating nonprofit is being sponsored by a Hodgson Russ employee who has a connection with them as a board member or a volunteer. While diverse in their missions, what the organizations have in common is a need for hands-on volunteers. “Our involvement with community-based organizations doesn’t stop at the board level,” said Kennedy. “We routinely roll-up our sleeves and enjoy working directly with the organizations and the people they serve.”

All employees of Hodgson Russ will be given time during the work day between 2:00 and 4:00 PM to visit with nonprofit representatives and learn how they can become actively involved in both long and short-term projects and initiatives.   Employees will also enjoy Valentine’s Day treats.

In addition to the volunteer showcase, the firm is sponsoring a professional clothing drive that will benefit the ECC One Stop Center, which provides clothing to job seekers who are embarking on interviews. Hodgson Russ attorneys and professional staff will donate gently worn clothing from suits and ties to blazers, dresses, belts and purses.

Hodgson Russ attorneys facilitate the U.S. legal aspects of transactions around the world. The firm practices in every major area of law and uses multidisciplinary work teams to serve the specific, often complex, needs of clients, which include public and privately held businesses, governmental entities, nonprofit institutions, and individuals. In addition to Buffalo, Hodgson Russ has offices, Albany, Saratoga Springs, and New York; Toronto, Ontario; and Palm Beach, Florida.
