Judge Ends Historic Desegregation Order for Buffalo Firefighters
As reported in the Buffalo News on February 9, the City of Buffalo was found to now be in compliance with standard diverse hiring practices and therefore U.S. District Judge John T. Curtin's order to desegregate the city's fire department has been dissolved. Lawyers on both sides, in seeking an end to the civil rights case, pointed to new hiring practices that over the years, resulted in a more diverse fire department.
