Hodgson Russ Celebrates 25 Years With an Office in Canada
Hodgson Russ is proud to announce the law firm’s 25th anniversary of opening its first Canadian office.
In 1989, after many decades of serving Canadian clients primarily from its Buffalo, New York, office―and in recognition of the important influence the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement would have on cross-border business―the firm opened a full-time office in Mississauga, Ontario. In 1999, the office moved to Toronto, where it remains. The office is currently located at 150 King Street West.
Today, Hodgson Russ is still one of only a few law firms with a full-time office in Toronto devoted exclusively to practicing U.S. law. With one of the largest Canada practice groups among U.S. law firms, made up of approximately 60 lawyers, Hodgson Russ helps Canadian businesses start up, expand, and succeed throughout the United States.
George J. Eydt, managing partner of the Toronto office, said, “Our Canadian business clients have always noted that our breadth and depth of services, including in niche areas like tax, securities, real estate, intellectual property, and franchise law, differentiate Hodgson Russ from the competition. Beyond that, we have the ability to serve private individuals, for example, with immigration and personal tax issues, as well as we serve businesses. This stands in contrast to many large U.S. firms that are good with big clients but often don’t work with the individuals behind each matter.”
George continued, “Looking forward, we plan to continue providing excellent U.S. legal services throughout Ontario while developing our relationships and presence in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and other communities across Canada.”
The firm is planning special celebratory events during the year, which will be announced separately.
