Hodgson Russ LLP Attorney Recognized as Top Leader in Accounting, Tax, and Audit
Hodgson Russ LLP is pleased to share that one of its partners, Debra Silverman Herman, has been named to Crain’s “2023 Notable Leaders in Accounting, Tax & Audit” list. The inaugural list recognizes top leaders in the field who serve as a mentor to others and promote inclusive practices in the workplace.
Debra is widely recognized for her experience in state and local taxation. Debra counsels clients with respect to multistate corporate income and franchise taxes, utility taxes, unincorporated business taxes, sales and use taxes, gross receipts taxes, excise taxes on real property transfers, rent and occupancy taxes, withholding taxes and residence and other personal income tax matters, from both a planning and an audit and controversy viewpoint and on complex transactions. In 2022, Debra was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, an honor reserved for those leaders who have made an exceptional contribution to the profession.
Debra is an inspiring leader in the firm. She encourages partners and colleagues alike to be zealous advocates for clients, always prioritizing clients’ needs above all. Debra argues fiercely on each client’s behalf, using established precedent and novel interpretations developed from her detailed knowledge of New York City and New York State tax law and regulations. Her leadership in the Tax Sections of the New York City Bar Association and American Bar Association has solidified Hodgson Russ’ State & Local Tax Practice as able to provide representation at a level equal to or exceeding that of larger law firms.
Debra is the immediate past chair of the American Bar Association Tax Section’s Committee on State and Local Taxes and is also a current member and former chair of the State and Local Tax Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She is a nationally-recognized author on state tax topics, previously serving as the editor in chief of The Tax Lawyer – The State and Local Tax Edition and State and Local Tax Lawyer – Symposium Edition, both published by the American Bar Association Section of Taxation.
