Harry G. Meyer, a partner in Hodgson Russ LLP's Real Estate & Finance Practice Group in the firm's Buffalo headquarters, recently became chair of the New York State Bar Association Real Property Law Section.

Mr. Meyer will serve a one-year term as chair of the Real Property Law Section, which provides members across New York State with opportunities for education, professional development, and networking related to the practice of real estate law.

Additionally, Mr. Meyer was recently a speaker at the Schenectady County Bar Association's 25th annual Real Estate Practice Seminar. In the "Hot Topics" segment of the seminar, Mr. Meyer discussed fraudulent flipping—the practice of buying properties and then selling or mortgaging them at prices considerably beyond their market value. Mr. Meyer is a member of the mayor's Anti-Flipping Task Force, which is a committee dedicated to finding solutions to this problem. New York State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt and New York State Senator William Stachowski are co-chairs of the task force.

Mr. Meyer concentrates his practice in commercial and industrial real property taxation, acquisitions, development, and environmental concerns, including wetlands delineation, protection, enhancement, and water resources.

He also serves as vice chair of the United States Coast Guard's Area Maritime Security Committee for Buffalo-Niagara, and he is secretary and a board member of the FBI-sponsored initiative InfraGard Buffalo Members Alliance, Inc.

He lectures extensively about commercial and industrial real estate, taxation, development, and environmental issues.

With more than 225 attorneys practicing in all major areas of law, Hodgson Russ is among the 200 largest law firms headquartered in the United States. It is one of approximately 100 firms in the country listed in America's Greatest Places to Work With a Law Degree. In June 2005, Hodgson Russ received the Carol S. Knox Family-Friendly Employer Award from the Capital District Women's Bar Association.
