Cathy Fleming a Speaker at Major National Conferences on Women in the Legal Profession
Cathy Fleming, a partner in the Hodgson Russ Business Litigation Practice Group in its New York office, recently spoke at two American Bar Association seminars focused on women in the legal profession. She will also speak on this topic at an upcoming Women Lawyers Alliance conference.
At the ABA Summit for In-House Counsel, titled “Capture Your Power: Your Role in Advancing Women in the Legal Profession,” Ms. Fleming was a member of the panel titled “Your Power Makes a Difference: Law Firm Partner Panel.” The conference was held April 28 at Temple University in Philadelphia.
She also spoke at the April 30 ABA Women in Law Leadership Academy on the topic “Negotiation Skills for Lawyers.” This conference, presented by the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession and its Young Lawyers Division, was also held in Philadelphia.
Ms. Fleming will be a speaker May 13 in Chicago at “Rainmaking Equals Influence,” a Women Lawyers Alliance conference focused on helping women achieve leadership roles in their firms. As a member of the panel titled “Glass Ceiling or Glass Door?” she will join other successful women leaders in law firms to discuss opportunities they created or used to become influential in their firms, obstacles in law firms that can prevent women from becoming great rainmakers and leaders, and other topics ranging from firm politics to gender issues.
These presentations follow Ms. Fleming’s October 2009 presentation of “Diversity in the Profession: Report Card on Women in Law” at the 31st annual conference of the National Association of Women Judges in Memphis, Tennessee.
In addition to being a regular speaker on issues concerning diversity in the legal profession, Ms. Fleming counsels corporations and law firms on implementing and enriching diversity initiatives. She is the former president of the National Association of Women Lawyers and a founding member of the NAWL Foundation. In 2008, the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) honored her with the NJWLA's Platinum Award for Women's Initiative & Leaders in Law. She was named a Woman of Power & Influence by the National Organization for Women in 2007.
