Is Your Firm Ready for the CCPA?
Just when law firms had digested the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation
(GDPR), California enacted its own broad privacy law, the California Consumer Privacy Act of
2018 (CCPA). Unlike federal laws regarding certain financial and health information, the CCPA
is not limited by subject matter or industry. And unlike state data breach and security laws, the
CCPA goes beyond data security. In addition to requiring that affected entities implement and
maintain reasonable security procedures, it also imposes various obligations designed to further
the individual’s right to know about and the control their personal information.
Gary Schober co-presented this webinar which provided an overview of the CCPA’s key provisions, addressed its application to law firms, and offered suggestions for compliance.
